Mitzvah #61

Sefer Ha’mitzvos Ha’Katzar (The concise book of mitzvos)
By the Chofetz Chaim

This book lists the Torah mitzvos that can be observed today

First Section – the Positive Commandments

61. It is a positive commandment to love a convert

As it states in Devarim (Deuteronomy) 10:19, "You shall love the convert." This commandment is in addition to "Love your neighbor" [Vayikra (Leviticus) 19:18], because a convert is also included as a member of Jewish people. G-d loves the convert, as it states in Devarim 10:18, "He loves the convert in giving him food and clothing." And it states in Shemos (Exodus) 23:9, "You know the soul of the convert." The meaning of the word "convert" in this statement means a person that came from another land or another city to live with us, and it certainly means a person that converted to Judaism.

This applies in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
