Mitzvah #75

75. It is a positive commandment to make a fence on one’s roof and to remove all dangerous items from one’s house
As it states in Devarim (Deuteronomy) 22:8, “And you shall make a fence for your roof so blood will not be spilled in your house.” Anyone that has a roof without a fence, has transgressed a positive commandment. Also, anything that is so dangerous it can cause death, like a well or a pit, a person must make a wall in front of it that is ten tefachim high. The wall also needs to be strong enough that if one leans against it, it will not fall. It is forbidden to raise a bad dog in one’s house. It is written in Sefer Charedim, “If a person thinks about this commandment every day to see if he needs to improve himself in it, it will be stated about him as if he performed this commandment every day.
This applies in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
