Second Section – the Negative Commandments

142. It is a negative commandment, “do not mate an animal or bird with another that is not of its own species.”

As it states in Vayikra (Leviticus) 19:19, “you shall not mate an animal with another that is not of its species.” Our Sages of blessed memory received the tradition that this also applies to wild beasts and birds.

This applies in all places and at all times for men and for women.
