Negative Commandment #146

Sefer Ha’mitzvos Ha’Katzar (The concise book of mitzvos) By the Chofetz Chaim

This book lists the Torah mitzvos that can be observed today

Second Section – the Negative Commandments

146. It is a negative commandment “do not make the mixture of the Ketores (Spice Offering)”

As it states in Shemos (Exodus) 30:37-38, “The Ketores… you shall not make its mixture for yourself. A man who makes this mixture to benefit from its scent shall be spiritually excommunicated.” Even if a person did not make the mixture the full weight, but only did half of it or a third of it, since he mixed it using the exact ratios, he is spiritually excommunicated. If it was done in error, he is to bring a sin offering. If he makes it so he can benefit from its scent, even if he did not smell it, he is still punished. If he makes it for educational purposes, he is free of sin.

This applies in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
