Negative Commandment #166

Sefer Ha’mitzvos Ha’Katzar (The concise book of mitzvos) By the Chofetz Chaim

This book lists the Torah mitzvos that can be observed today

Second Section – the Negative Commandments

166. It is a negative commandment “do not act on auspicious times”

As it states in Vayikra (Leviticus) 19:26, “do not act on auspicious times.” This means designating certain seasons or times by saying, ‘this time period or this month is good to do this,’ or the vice versa. Anyone who acts on words of astrologers transgresses this commandment. Also, if a person creates illusions or makes an amazing feat in front of others when he is really not doing anything, this is included in this negative commandment.

This applies in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
