Negative Commandment #94

Sefer Ha’mitzvos Ha’Katzar (The concise book of mitzvos) By the Chofetz Chaim

This book lists the Torah mitzvos that can be observed today

Second Section – the Negative Commandments

94. It is a negative commandment “do not eat non-kosher fowl”

As it states in Vayikra (Leviticus) 11:13, “the following are non-kosher birds and you shall not eat them…” Any bird that separates its feet when a string is stretched [for it to walk on], or has two talons on one side and two talons on the other side, or catches food in the air and eats it in the air – these are all considered birds of prey and are not kosher. Any bird that lives with non-kosher birds or is similar to them is considered non-kosher. A person who eats an olive size amount of the non-kosher fowl is to receive lashes. Eggs from non-kosher birds are forbidden to be eaten according to Torah law.

This applies in all places and at all times, for men and for women.
